FMFAPAC Certification
The Fetal Medicine Foundation Asia Pacific certification process confirms that a doctor or sonographer has the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform a specific fetal ultrasound scan or screening test to FMF standards. This page explains what certification involves, how it differs from a software license, and the steps candidates follow to obtain a Certificate of Competence.

Certificate vs. License: What's the Difference?

Certificate of Competence
A Certificate of Competence is awarded after a candidate has completed a face-to-face practical assessment with a FMFAPAC Authorized Assessor and has satisfied the required standard.
It is an individual qualification and confirms that a candidate has the clinical competence to perform a specific FMF examination or screening programme (e.g. the 11–13 week scan, Doppler ultrasound,
Preeclampsia screening).

FMF Software License
An FMF software license is required to enable the FMF First Trimester Screening risk calculator to be compatible with ultrasound programs like Astraia, ViewPoint, and other compatible software platforms. It is a license file available to download from the FMF website.

A License is a software authorization, not a qualification, and does not demonstrate clinical competence.

How to obtain a FMFAPAC Certificate of Competence
The certification process to obtain a FMFAPAC Certificate of Competence is outlined below:

1. Complete the theoretical course for the relevant test or scan through the FMF website.
2. Upload your theoretical course certificate to your FMFAPAC account.
3. Request a face-to-face assessment with an examiner.
   * Before requesting an assessment, candidates must have completed the required FMF theoretical course and uploaded the course certificate to their FMFAPAC account *
4. Complete the assessment. The examiner reviews your practical performance against FMF criteria.
5. Result awarded. If your performance satisfies the required standard, your Certificate of Competence is generated automatically and linked to your FMFAPAC account.
6.  Download your e-certificate from your account page at any time.
